Nissan’s Recycling Plan for Electric Cars; Reuse Old Light Bulbs as a Flower Vase; 75 Chipotle Restaurants Get Solar Panels; Brazilians switch back to gas as ethanol prices rise; Hybrid Buses Get Cheaper
Brazilians switch back to gas as ethanol prices rise. Like we didn’t know this was going to happen eventually. Brazilian drivers in many states are switching from ethanol made from sugar cane to gas as higher sugar prices are pushing ethanol prices up, says Reuters. When ethanol costs about 70 percent as much or more than gas, drivers switch. Ethanol only provides about two-thirds of the energy content that gas does; as a result, when it passes the 70 percent mark, it effectively becomes more expensive.
Nissan’s Recycling Plan for Cheaper Electric Cars Nissan just outlined plans to make its battery-powered cars such as the LEAF more affordable: Put the used batteries to work storing electricity for power generation.
How To Reuse Old Light Bulbs as a Flower Vase Check out this YouTube video on how to reuse your old incandescent bulbs as vases. Pretty cool!
75 Chipotle Restaurants Get Solar Panels Here’s one more reason to feel good about heading out to Chipotle for a burrito: The Denver-based Mexican restaurant chain has just announced that is making a big solar power push, partnering with Standard Renewable Energy to install solar panels at approximately 75 of its restaurants over the next year.
As Hybrid Buses Get Cheaper, Cities Fill Their Fleets If you wonder whether hybrid-electric vehicles will ever catch on, simply ask one of the millions of people who ride in them every day. Transit systems from New York to Taipei, and from Ames, Iowa, to Ann Arbor, Mich., are adding hybrid buses at a rapid clip.
