The Daily Five

Eco-Friendly Cool Air; NY green rooftop; Bliss Trek helps you save fuel; Solar-powered cargo ship; Incentives for EVs in Canada

Eco-Friendly Cool Air. Artica is a natural cooling, ventilation and heat recovery system which boasts of using less than 10% of the energy of a conventional air conditioning system. Its ratio of thermal to electrical energy rating or COP is 32 making it ten times niftier than the gas chamber of AC you have on your window. Using Artica will reduce your carbon footprint as CO2 emissions are cut by 90%.

NYC green rooftop. New York architect Paul Gleicher did an eco overhaul on his home, part of which included installing a rooftop glass conservatory nestled among a living green roof. Pretty cool and almost makes me wish I lived in the city – almost.

Bliss Trek helps you save fuel. MaxQData has unveiled Bliss Trek, an iPhone app that helps its users save fuel while driving. If I had an iPhone 3G I would give it a shot and see how it does – anyone else try it yet?

Solar-powered cargo ship. The M/V Auriga Leader, now docked at the Port of Long Beach in California, recently unveiled an impressive array of 328 solar panels that will power the ship’s main electrical grid, making this the first ocean liner to be propelled in part by the sun’s rays.

New incentives for EVs in Canada. Ontario today announced that it would be offering consumers subsidies of 4,000 to 10,000 Canadian dollars ($3,600 to $8,900) against the purchase of plug-in hybrid or battery electric vehicles, starting next July. So…when will we see the same from our government or states? I hope we do!
