The Field Lab: A Study In Sustainable Living.
I wanted to pass along some info about this site I just started reading called The Field Lab, which is a “Southwest Texas Alternative Energy And Sustainable Living Field Laboratory” as named by John Wells, the proprietor of the “lab”. John has been experimenting with alternative energy and living off-the-grid on 40 acres of land in Texas since 2007 after taking stock of his life and deciding that “rather than spend the rest of my life busting my ass so I can afford all the modern, pre-packaged conveniences that our “advanced” society provides – I am putting that energy into providing for all my own needs.” Pretty sweet, right?

While the site I linked to above is the static website for his lab, John also keeps an up-to-date blog at http://thefieldlab.blogspot.com/, where you can follow along as he builds a swamp cooler, installs more rainwater catchment cisterns, teaches us about poop composting, and feeds the “pet” cattle that come by for a visit. If you have ever been looking for inspiration in living an off-grid, independent life, John at The Field Lab might be just what you need!
