Introducing Enhanced Commenting and Search
Beginning today, we’re introducing enhanced commenting and search on EcoTech Daily.
Perhaps you’ve already run into the Disqus commenting system. Disqus is designed to simplify the way you comment on articles and interact with readers who share your interests. Let’s face it: keeping track of logins and passwords is a big hassle. With Disqus, you can create a single profile that can be used on thousands of tops sites, from hot new desinations like The Inquisitr to the Harvard Crimson.
What Disqus Isn’t
On EcoTech Daily, Disqus isn’t something you must sign-up for in order to comment. You’re free to discuss our articles without registering for anything. Just fill in the blanks, have your say, and your comment will appear after it has been reviewed by our moderators — usually within minutes. Disqus allows everyone threaded, message board-style discussion that’s easy to use and follow.
How Disqus Makes Things Better
If you choose to create a profile with Disqus, you’ll have access to bunch of convenient features. First, you’ll be able to create a digital identity which lets people know who you are and where to find you on the web: Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, LinkedIn, and an expanding list of other services. As many or as few as you choose to offer.
Logged-in Disqus members can show a custom avatar and rate on other readers’ comments. You’ll have a personal page that allows you to track your words on other Disqus-enabled sites and see who’s responding to your comments. You can subscribe to the comments of individual articles, your own comments, and those of Disqus friends.
All of these subscriptions are standard RSS feeds, which allows you browse them in Google Reader or any RSS client. You can also integrate your comment feeds with other services, such as Friendfeed, a custom start page, or the sidebar of your blog.
Disqus also hosts our new community page, where you can find comments on EcoTech Daily articles or start a new discussion of your own. We expect Disqus to expand their services in coming months, and we’ll keep you up to date on their progress.
Enhanced Search With Lijit
We’ve also added Lijit search on EcoTech Daily. Lijit is powered by Google, so you already know how to use it. You’ll find a Lijit search box near the top right of each page.
Lijit is capable of deep searches on EcoTech Daily. We’ve also integrated Lijit with our soon-to-be-relaunched sister site, Lighter Footstep, and a carefully selected set of resources directly relevant to EcoTech Daily.
Disqus and Lijit are on a first name basis, so you’ll be able to search reader comments without any special syntax.
Questions? Tru a Lijit search — or leave a comment. We hope you enjoy EcoTech Daily’s new features.
